The secret to becoming more noticeable than your competitor is you. You are the main factor to this whole equation. It’s not about baskets and furniture and display and banners and product. It’s about how well you can sell you. You’re the key.

Here’s a few tips:

Be friendlier
Be more enthusiastic
Be more accepting of people
Be happier genuinely
Be a sales expert
Be untouched by competitors vibes
Be confident
Be helpful to those around you including your competitor
Be sincere

Never let a competitor steal your joy
Never feel like you’re in competition with anyone
Never fake sincerity.
Never think you have to win
Never think you have to get one up on your competitor

Always relax and be yourself. People buy because of you not because of your product or your display.
Always be a friend to everyone you need including your competitor

Always remember that.

Excellent advice. I love that you emphasize how we need to be aware that "you" are what is being sold, not your fancy displays or professional setups.
How easy it is to forget this! As a budding author, I have gotten into this mindset that "If I look professional, then that will be enough. They will buy my product because I can compete with the BIGS."
Nope. You blew that misconception out of the water for me. Thank you!

When I get to the point where I am able to do book signings, I will certainly keep all of this in mind.
