Marketing your book is one thing but actually selling is another. You have to know both in order to succeed.
I’ve been in sales and marketing for 40 years of my life and had to learn the ropes just like everyone else. But it takes someone who is really willing to learn and to put in all into practice. It doesn’t usually just come naturally.
First, let’s define marketing and sales.
Marketing is the process by which you use tools to promote your book that gives it appeal and catches the attention of the potential buyers.
But that’s just the beginning.
Sales, on the other hand, is a process by which you use skills to turn those prospects into buyers.
You absolutely need to know both processes in order to succeed in being an author. So how do you go about doing that?
There are many tools that you can use to market your book. None of them are a sure thing or a guarantee that you will receive sales. You must pick what is out there that appeals to you the most and that you love to look at the most because it will probably be what your potential buyer will love to look at also.
Marketing takes repeat, repeat, repeat. Marketing is not a one-time deal. Marketing takes work and it takes persistence. And those who don’t have those two characteristics will not succeed, no matter what.
Sales, on the other hand, is a skill that is honed to perfection and that skill is geared toward pleasing people and making that connection with them to the point that they trust you and are ready to buy.
You can’t have one without the other obviously. Marketing and sales go hand in hand.
